Downtown Sounds is a full-service musical instrument retail store founded in 1976 by Joe Blumenthal in Northampton, MA. We sell top brand names of guitars, amplifiers, drums, keyboards, PA and recording equipment, woodwinds, brass, string instruments and sheet music, as well as a full line of accessories for the instruments we sell.

Brands include Fender, Yamaha, Pearl, Seagull, Godin, Taylor, Zildjian, LP, Gold Tone, Alesis, Roland, Boss, Tascam and Spector.

In addition, we offer lessons on guitar, bass, drums, piano, and woodwinds by some of the best professional musicians in the Pioneer Valley. Downtown Sounds also an excellent repair shops for all string instruments featuring Downtown Lutheries' Owen Davidson and for amplifiers and electronics with Ron Burati. We regularly buy and sell used instruments, and take trade-ins. The store features a rental-purchase plan which makes it easy to have a quality beginner's instrument, and revolving charge accounts for our regular customers.
