In January of 2009, I received a certification from EcoBroker where I completed a series of courses about energy conservation and other environmental features about residential property.

In another niche, I help people understand the issues surrounding the trials and tribulations of undertaking major renovations. [yes, fixer uppers] In this regard, I don't just 'talk the talk'--I 'walk the walk'. Over the past 25 years, I have overseen the reconstruction and restoration of three houses. Most recently, my wife Kathy and I did a complete renovation of an 1865 Italianate house in Northampton's village of Florence. This renovation included a 'period garden' with the themes and inventories of plants as you would have found in the 1860s.

We operate a bed & breakfast called Sugar Maple Trailside Inn. In 2003, when we finished the renovation, the city awarded us the Historic Preservation Award and later that fall, HGTV's acclaimed televison series "RESTORE AMERICA" featured our 'fixer upper'.
